Dr. Maria Kicking Horse Lawrence, is a Ramapough Munsee Elder, Clan Mother, Educator and Scientist. Carrying over 25 years of educational instruction, curricula development and cross cultural pedagogies, Dr. Lawrence currently is a Professor and Advisor at Rhode Island College in Science Education. Dr. Maria Lawrence is a two time Fulbright Scholar having conducted research in Poland and Brazil. In addition, Dr. Lawrence is a Rhode Island College Alumni Honor Roll Award recipient, Faculty Fellow having conducted service learning in Ecuador with students, and a former Tomaquag Museum Board Chair (2016). Presently, Dr. Lawrence is an active Clan Mother and passionate about meaningful Indigenous and BPOC inclusion in the multifaceted world of STEAM, and the institutions and political chambers associated. Dr. Lawrence is the Co-Director of Sovereign Science, an Indigenous led Think Tank and research hub, and she is on the advisory board of the Campus Climate Network. Furthermore, Dr. Lawrence will be the first Ramapough Munsee visiting faculty member at Bard College, an institution sitting on unceded Munsee Mohican lands and waters.
